Yoga class to benefit childhood hunger - Downtown Athletic Club in Hazleton will hold Dec. 18 event to help CEO
The Hazleton Downtown Athletic Club will be
holding a charity yoga class to benefit the
Commission of Economic Opportunity's (CEO) Ending
Childhood Hunger program on Dec. 18.
Michele Fisher, manager of the Hazleton Downtown
Athletic Club, said she wanted to do something
special for the holiday season by having some
type of event to benefit a local organization.
After discussing her idea with the Hazleton
Downtown Athletic Club's owner, Kevin Lamont,
he suggested she work with the CEO, in reference
to all the work they do on Thanksgiving.
I wanted to do some kind of charity for the
holidays. I know the CEO does a lot for people,
and I know they help hunger, Fisher said. So,
I thought they would be a good organization
to call.
Fisher, who has been teaching yoga for eight
years, said she has recently been into power
yoga, and decided to do Power Vinyasa Yoga for
the benefit class.
Power Vinyasa Yoga is a yoga practice that
is very challenging, and is one of the most
popular and respected methods of yoga practice.
My goal is to bring awareness to the area,
Fisher said. Yoga is about awareness, and the
area needs to be aware that there is a problem
of childhood hunger. It exists in our area,
and we don't even know about it.
She added that this will be her service to
others. Doing good for people helps us out as
a teacher in our place, and in society.
The charity yoga class will be held Dec. 18
from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Hazleton Downtown Athletic
Club, 1 West Broad St., Hazleton. The class
is open to all ages from beginner to experienced
students.
The cost is $10 per person.
